Gabiru

Gabiru is a prominent supporting character in the anime That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensura). He is initially introduced as the arrogant, overconfident son of the Lizardmen chief and captain of their warriors. As a Lizardman, he has a green anthropomorphic lizard appearance with two horns, often wearing distinctive armor that includes a cape, baggy pants, and a furry neck warmer.

He starts off boastful and prideful, believing himself to be a legendary hero destined to lead his people, which leads him into trouble (including a failed rebellion influenced by manipulation). After encountering Rimuru Tempest and facing defeat, he and his loyal followers join Rimuru's growing nation. Rimuru later names him (effectively overwriting an earlier name), causing Gabiru to evolve into a more powerful Dragonewt form. In this evolved state, he gains dragon-like traits such as wings (which he can retract), sharper/larger horns, and tougher scales (with his skin shifting to a purple hue in the anime).

Personality-wise, Gabiru is flamboyant, showy, and loves to boast or pose dramatically, often coming across as comedic and somewhat annoying at first. However, he is deeply loyal to his subordinates, genuinely cares about his team, and proves to be a capable leader in serious battles—showing growth, bravery, and tactical skill over time. He becomes one of Rimuru's trusted executives, heading the aerial forces (like the Hiryuu squad) and contributing to research/production efforts in Tempest.

Overall, he's a fan-favorite for his entertaining mix of ego, redemption arc, and surprisingly heroic moments.
