Sung Il-Hwan is Sung Jinwoo's long-missing father in the Solo Leveling anime. He is a powerful Korean S-Rank Hunter (one of the earliest and strongest, from before formal rankings were fully established) who mysteriously disappeared about ten years before the main story begins, presumed dead after getting trapped in a dungeon during a raid.
In the anime adaptation (particularly noticeable in Season 2), he reappears as an incredibly strong figure—easily overpowering high-level threats like S-Rank Hunter Hwang Dongsoo in a brutal confrontation. He has a muscular, robust build with shaggy black hair, slight facial hair, and gray eyes that glow bright yellow when using his powers or agitated. Notably, the anime shows him wearing his wedding ring as a necklace (a detail different from other versions), symbolizing his longing for his family.
Personality-wise, he's deeply protective and caring toward his loved ones (his wife Park Kyung-Hye, son Jinwoo, and daughter Jinah), showing little tolerance for anyone who threatens them—he's selfless, merciful to innocents, but ruthless when necessary. His return brings major implications for Jinwoo's journey, though he remains a supporting/mysterious character focused on family protection and greater threats.
