Rou

Rou (also called Goburou early on) is the main protagonist of the Re:Monster anime.

He is a former human named Tomokui Kanata from a futuristic world, where he possessed an esper-like ability called Absorption (or Absorptive Consumption). After being murdered by a stalker (his childhood friend), he is reincarnated into a fantasy world as a weak, newborn goblin, the lowest-ranked monster species.

Retaining his human memories, intelligence, and his unique power, Rou uses Absorption to permanently gain abilities, traits, and strengths by consuming other creatures (monsters, animals, etc.). This allows him to rapidly evolve and grow stronger, starting from a small green-skinned goblin and progressing through forms like hobgoblin and beyond as the story advances.

He is highly intelligent, strategic, and ambitious, determined to live his second life to the fullest by building strength, leading and evolving his goblin tribe, and eventually forming a larger group (Parabellum). While ruthless in battle and pragmatic (using others as needed), he shows loyalty and care toward his followers, training them and rewarding growth.

In the anime (which covers his early goblin days and evolutions across its episodes), Rou is voiced by Takuya Sato in Japanese and focuses on his survival, power progression, and leadership in a harsh monster-filled world.
