Sonia

Sonia (ソニア) is a recurring character in the Pokémon anime, specifically appearing in Pokémon Journeys: The Series. She is the granddaughter and former assistant of Professor Magnolia, and she later succeeds her grandmother to become the official Pokémon Professor of the Galar region.

In the anime, Sonia is portrayed as a friendly, amiable young woman who has a particular soft spot for cute Pokémon (she often shows affection by playfully tugging their ears). She is also a childhood friend of Leon (the Champion), having traveled with him as a Trainer in their younger days before shifting focus to research. She is knowledgeable about Galar's history and legends, often assisting Ash, Goh, and others with information related to the region or mysterious phenomena.

She has a somewhat quirky side, such as being a notably poor driver. Later in the series, she adopts the classic white lab coat as she fully steps into her role as Professor Sonia.
