Blaine

Blaine is the Fire-type Gym Leader of the Cinnabar Island Gym in the Pokémon anime (specifically in Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, episodes like "Riddle Me This" and "Volcanic Panic").

In the anime version, he's portrayed as an older, kind but somewhat eccentric and riddle-loving man who became frustrated when Cinnabar Island turned into a tourist spot due to its hot springs, drawing crowds more interested in relaxation than serious Pokémon battles. He closed the original gym and relocated it inside a volcano on the island, disguising himself (with a long blond wig, sunglasses, and fake mustache) as he runs a hotel called the Riddle Inn and gives challengers cryptic riddles to prove they're worthy of finding and battling him for the Volcano Badge.

He's passionate about battling strong trainers, enjoys wordplay and puns (often fire-themed), and takes his role seriously despite his quirky, laid-back demeanor in disguise. His main Pokémon in the anime include Ninetales, Rhydon, and especially Magmar (his powerhouse). He gives Ash a tough challenge, leading to a memorable battle where Ash eventually earns the badge in a rematch.

This contrasts with his more straightforward, bald, scientist-like appearance in the games.
