About Pryce

Pryce (known as Yanagi in Japanese) is the Mahogany Town Gym Leader in the Johto region, specializing in Ice-type Pokémon. In the anime (Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver), he appears as an elderly man with a grumpy, cold, and stern demeanor—often described as cranky or icy in personality—reflecting his title as the "Teacher of Winter's Harshness."

He has a bald head with short white hair featuring spiked fringes, brown eyes, pale skin, and usually wears a displeased expression. His typical outfit includes a short-sleeved yellow button-up shirt, red shorts, and red sandals.

Pryce starts off believing that Pokémon should be strictly disciplined rather than treated as friends, stemming from a past traumatic incident where he was badly burned in a battle and felt abandoned by his loyal Piloswine (which had left to find healing herbs but couldn't return immediately). This made him bitter for years. His encounter with Ash Ketchum, involving the reunion with his long-lost Piloswine, softens his outlook—he warms up to the idea of genuine bonds between trainers and Pokémon, showing a more compassionate side by the end of his arc.

He awards the Glacier Badge after battles, and his key Pokémon include Piloswine (his most personal partner), along with others like Seel and Dewgong in the anime Gym battle.
