Takashi Komuro

Takashi Komuro is the main protagonist and viewpoint character of Highschool of the Dead. He's a 17-year-old second-year student at Fujimi Academy (high school), serving as the leader of the core group of survivors during the zombie apocalypse outbreak.

Before the chaos, Takashi was a laid-back, somewhat delinquent-type student who often skipped class and was hesitant about expressing his feelings—particularly toward his childhood friend Rei Miyamoto, whom he has long loved (complicated by her dating his friend Hisashi at the start). He's one of the first to spot the danger and takes quick, decisive action to escape the school with his friends.

As the story progresses, he emerges as a reliable, protective leader who holds the group together in dire situations, showing strong resolve to safeguard everyone (especially Rei and the others). He's brave and selfless, often risking his life impulsively to save people, though he struggles with feelings of inadequacy. He's decent in melee combat (often using improvised weapons like a bat) and becomes skilled with firearms thanks to training from Kohta Hirano. He also admits to feeling a thrill in fighting the undead ("them"), adding a darker edge to his character.

Overall, he's portrayed as an ordinary guy thrust into extraordinary circumstances, evolving from passive and indecisive to a determined, chivalrous survivor who prioritizes his friends and humanity amid the horror.
