Yuki Sohma

Yuki Sohma is one of the central characters in the Fruits Basket anime (particularly the 2019 reboot, which closely follows the manga's portrayal while adapting the story faithfully).

He is a high school student and the Rat of the Chinese zodiac in the cursed Sohma family—meaning he transforms into a small rat when hugged by someone of the opposite sex or when emotionally/physically weakened.

Appearance: Yuki is strikingly handsome with a delicate, almost feminine beauty that earns him the nickname "Prince Yuki" among his classmates. He has light gray hair (sometimes appearing more silvery or with a slight purple tint depending on lighting/animation), dark gray eyes, fair skin, and a slim, average-height build. His style often includes elegant or slightly formal clothing, contributing to his princely image.

Personality: On the surface, Yuki comes across as calm, polite, charming, intelligent, and composed—the ideal "perfect prince" admired by many (he even has a dedicated fan club at school). However, beneath this facade, he's deeply insecure, socially awkward, and struggles with genuine connections due to a traumatic childhood involving emotional (and implied heavier) abuse from the family head, Akito. He often feels worthless, isolated, and conflicted about his "untouchable" reputation, yearning for normal friendships and self-acceptance.

Throughout the series, Yuki gradually opens up, shows kindness and protectiveness (especially toward Tohru Honda), develops real friendships, and works through his inner pain toward personal growth and healing. He's thoughtful, introspective, and has a gentle side, though he can be sarcastic or competitive (particularly with his rival, Kyo).
