About Kyogai

Kyogai, also known as the Drum Demon (Tsuzumi Oni), is a demon and the main antagonist of the Tsuzumi Mansion Arc in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

He was formerly a member of the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Lower Rank Six until Muzan Kibutsuji excommunicated him for reaching his growth limit as a demon (he could no longer become stronger by consuming humans). This left a prominent X-shaped scar over the kanji for "Lower Six" in his right eye.

Physically, Kyogai is a tall, muscular humanoid demon with grayish skin, black hair, sharp teeth, pointy ears, and blood-red eyes. His most distinctive feature is the six tsuzumi (Japanese hand drums) embedded in his body (on his shoulders, hips, stomach, and back), which he uses for his Blood Demon Art. By striking these drums, he can manipulate space within his mansion—rotating rooms, changing gravity directions, or unleashing claw-like slashing attacks.

Before becoming a demon, he was an unsuccessful writer/poet whose work was harshly criticized, contributing to his bitterness and drive for recognition even after his fall from the Kizuki ranks. He is eventually defeated by Tanjiro Kamado during their encounter in the ever-shifting mansion.
