Hakuto Kunai

Hakuto Kunai is the protagonist of the Demon Lord, Retry! anime (also known as Maou-sama, Retry!). He is actually Akira Ono, the creator of the MMORPG Infinity Game, who finds himself isekai'd into the game world right as the servers shut down, trapped in the body of his max-level character: the self-proclaimed Demon Lord of the Great Empire, Hakuto Kunai.

In the anime's depiction, he appears as a tall, imposing man (around 187 cm) with long black hair, sharp/penetrating black eyes, and a distinctive mafia boss/Yakuza-like style—often wearing a dark suit (sometimes with a long coat), white shirt, red tie, and frequently seen smoking a cigarette, which adds to his cool, intimidating mobster vibe.

Personality-wise, while the original game character was a tyrannical, cold, ruthless Demon Lord type who wouldn't hesitate to kill and acted like a high-ranking empire official, the anime emphasizes that the real Akira inside is more of a normal, level-headed modern guy. He often puts on a calculated, commanding front to maintain the role (and avoid misunderstandings with his powerful subordinates), but he's ultimately pragmatic, protective of allies, and focused on figuring out his situation rather than being purely villainous. He has great acting skills from his real-world experience and game knowledge, helping him bluff and lead effectively. Voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in Japanese (with a deep, gravelly tone that fits the "cool boss" aesthetic) and Jessie James Grelle in English.
