Shin Wolford

Shin Wolford is the main protagonist of the anime Wise Man's Grandchild (Kenja no Mago).

In the anime, he is a young man who originally died in a traffic accident in modern Japan as a salaryman and was reincarnated into a fantasy world with his memories intact. As a baby, after his new parents were killed by a demonoid, he was discovered and adopted by the legendary hero and sage Merlin Wolford, who raised him as his grandson in a secluded forest home, with occasional help from Melinda (Merlin's ex-wife).

Shin grows up to become an extraordinarily powerful and versatile mage, thanks to Merlin's intense training combined with his retained modern scientific knowledge, which he applies innovatively to magic (creating new spells, barriers, and enchanted gear far beyond normal standards). He enrolls in the Earlshide Kingdom's advanced magic academy at age 15, where he joins the elite S-Class and later forms the Ultimate Magic Research Society.

Appearance-wise (as depicted in the anime), Shin is a handsome teenage boy with a slim, athletic build, light skin, striking purple hair (reaching around neck length), and matching reddish-purple/violet eyes, giving him a refined, almost androgynous Western-style look that stands out.

Personality-wise, he's kind-hearted, humble, heroic, and genuinely wants to help others and protect people, but he's also extremely dense socially and lacks common sense about the world due to his isolated upbringing—Merlin focused almost entirely on combat/magic training and neglected teaching him everyday social norms, money values, or romance cues. This leads to comedic situations where his overwhelming talent and obliviousness surprise or baffle those around him.

He's polite, determined, and a bit of a ditzy genius, often approaching problems with logical/scientific thinking from his past life while being overwhelmingly strong in battles.
