Alice Zuberg

Alice Zuberg (also known as Alice Synthesis Thirty) is a central character in the Sword Art Online: Alicization anime arc (and its sequel War of Underworld).

In the anime's depiction of the Underworld (a virtual world), she originates as a young girl from the remote village of Rulid, where she was childhood friends with Eugeo and Kirito (in his Underworld alias). As a child, she had a pure-hearted, kind, and curious personality, with long golden blonde hair and blue eyes, often shown in simple village attire.

Due to accidentally violating the Taboo Index (the strict laws of the Human Empire) by touching forbidden territory as a child, she was arrested by an Integrity Knight and taken to the Central Cathedral. There, the Administrator Quinella subjected her to the Synthesis Ritual, sealing away her original memories and transforming her into Alice Synthesis Thirty, one of the elite Integrity Knights serving the Axiom Church.

As Alice Synthesis Thirty, she appears as a proud, dignified, and highly skilled knight clad in golden armor with a blue cape, wielding the powerful Fragrant Olive Sword (a divine weapon that can release into countless golden petals). She starts off as loyal to the church, stern, and somewhat cold/arrogant in demeanor, but her character develops significantly through interactions with Kirito and Eugeo—regaining parts of her past self, questioning her loyalties, and growing into a more compassionate, determined, and heroic figure who plays a major role in the conflicts of the arc.

Her journey explores themes of identity, memory, free will, and what it means to be "human" in the context of the virtual world. Voiced by Ai Kayano in Japanese (Kayli Mills in English), she's often highlighted for her strong presence, elegant design, and emotional depth in the anime adaptation.
