Song Chi-Yul

Song Chi-Yul (also referred to as Song Chiyul or Chi-yul Song in some localizations) is a supporting character in the Solo Leveling anime.

He is a C-Rank Hunter specializing as a mage (particularly adept with fire magic) and serves as a kumdo (kendo) teacher outside of hunting. In the anime, he appears as a thin, middle-aged man with noticeable wrinkles, blonde/light hair, and is missing his left arm — a result of the traumatic events in the Double Dungeon incident early in the series.

Personality-wise, Chi-Yul comes across as lively, sarcastic, and brave, with a strong sense of duty and responsibility. He refuses to retire from hunting despite his injury and shows courage by standing up to threats to protect others (like during confrontations in raids), even when outmatched. He forms a bond with Sung Jin-Woo from their shared survival in the Double Dungeon and later appears in contexts like leading or joining raid parties, while also running his martial arts teaching.

His role highlights themes of perseverance and mentorship in the anime's early-to-mid arcs.
