About Jirō Yakuin

Jirō Yakuin is the main male protagonist of More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers (Fuufu Ijou, Koibito Miman).

He's a third-year high school student who's an introverted, awkward, and somewhat gloomy guy with low self-esteem. He prefers keeping to himself, playing video games (especially on his handheld console), and avoiding social interactions as much as possible. Often seen as unremarkable or at the bottom of the class social hierarchy, he's kind-hearted and hardworking deep down but struggles with confidence and has never had a girlfriend (he's sometimes jokingly called "Virgin-kun").

In the story, he's forced into the school's "couples training" (marriage practical) program and paired with the outgoing gyaru Akari Watanabe—despite his unrequited crush on his childhood friend Shiori Sakurazaka. His initial goal is to earn high enough scores to switch partners and be with Shiori, but the arrangement leads to gradual character growth and complicated feelings as he spends more time "pretending" to be a married couple with Akari.
