About Giyu Tomioka

Giyu Tomioka is one of the main supporting characters in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

He is the Water Hashira (Water Pillar), the current master of Water Breathing style, and one of the nine highest-ranking Demon Slayers in the organization.

Personality & appearance highlights:

  • Stoic, calm, and emotionally reserved — he rarely shows strong emotions and often speaks in a blunt, straightforward manner.
  • Frequently described as having a "strong face" but lacking expressiveness; many characters (especially Tanjiro) note that he seems lonely or distant.
  • Tall, lean build with pale skin, long black hair tied into a low ponytail, and striking sharp blue eyes.
  • Wears the standard black Demon Slayer uniform with an uneven haori — the left side is solid dark red-magenta, while the right side features a green-yellow geometric pattern (a memento from his late friend and sister figures).

Giyu is introduced very early in the series when he spares Nezuko (despite her being a demon) after seeing Tanjiro's determination, which becomes a pivotal moment for the story.

He's widely regarded as extremely powerful, composed under pressure, and quietly compassionate beneath his cold exterior.
