About Sayo Shinoyama

Sayo Shinoyama is a supporting character in the Dead Mount Death Play anime, part of the wealthy and eccentric Shinoyama family.

She is the second eldest granddaughter of the family patriarch Rozan Shinoyama (making her the niece of Polka Shinoyama, whose body is possessed by the Corpse God). In her early 20s, Sayo is currently unemployed and lives a reclusive, NEET-like lifestyle at the Shinoyama mansion, rarely venturing out.

Her most defining trait is an extreme obsession with sharks, she's a massive shark enthusiast (often described as a shark otaku), frequently bringing up sharks in conversations, believing people who like them can't be truly bad, and surrounding herself with shark-themed items and merchandise. This quirky passion makes her come across as eccentric and somewhat airheaded at first glance.

Despite her laid-back and socially withdrawn demeanor, she shows surprising hidden depths, including sharp logical thinking, good deductive skills, empathy, and an ability to read situations or people effectively when it matters.

In the anime (primarily appearing in Season 1 and continuing into Season 2), she becomes connected to the main group involving Polka/Corpse God and his companions, often providing a more grounded (if shark-obsessed) perspective amid the chaos of assassins, magic, and supernatural elements. Her voice in the Japanese version is provided by Yo Taichi, and in English by Celeste Perez.
