Gonze (also spelled Gonz in some translations) is a supporting character in the anime Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside. He's a half-elf carpenter living in the frontier town of Zoltan, where the protagonist Red settles down.
Gonze is depicted as a friendly, reliable, and skilled craftsman with a pleasant, easygoing personality typical of an experienced worker. He's a close neighbor and good friend to Red, often interacting with him in the community's everyday life. He has a strong sense of family—he looks after his younger sister Nao and is especially doting on his young nephew Tanta, whom Red helps with a health issue early on. As thanks, Gonze assists Red by building or working on his apothecary shop.
In the anime adaptation, Gonze serves as part of the cozy, slice-of-life supporting cast in Zoltan, helping highlight the relaxed rural atmosphere and Red's new quiet life among kind locals. He's voiced by Masahiro Yamanaka in Japanese (and Kyle Phillips in the English dub).
