Desir Herrman

Desir Herrman (also spelled Desir Arman or similar variations) is the main protagonist of the anime A Returner's Magic Should Be Special (2023 adaptation).

He is a mage who, after failing to clear the final Shadow World (a catastrophic event that led to humanity's near-extinction), returns to the past specifically to his time as a 16-year-old student enrolling at the prestigious Hebrion Academy. Retaining all his memories and knowledge from the future timeline (where he was around 29 and one of the last survivors), he uses this foreknowledge to train allies, change events, and prevent the apocalyptic future he experienced.

Appearance: He has a fairly ordinary, unassuming look for a teenager, tall with fair skin, thick unbrushed black hair, black eyes, and a long face that tapers toward the chin. He tends to dress casually rather than flashy.

Personality/Role: Desir is highly strategic and analytical (often called the "Anti-Mage" for his focus on countering and analyzing magic rather than raw power). Having lived through apocalypse-level threats, he approaches training and preparation with intense seriousness, sometimes coming across as strict or unforgiving to those unaware of his experiences. His goal drives the story: leveraging his second chance to build a stronger team and avert disaster.
