About Tōshirō Hitsugaya

Tōshirō Hitsugaya is one of the most popular characters in Bleach.

He is the captain of the 10th Division of the Gotei 13, making him the youngest captain in the history of the Soul Society (he's biologically in his early teens despite being well over 100 years old).

Key characteristics:

  • Appearance: Short, white hair, teal eyes, turquoise/teal-colored haori over his captain's uniform. He often looks quite stern and serious.
  • Personality: Mature, composed, intelligent, and very disciplined for his age. He dislikes being underestimated or treated like a child because of his appearance, and he gets noticeably irritated when people call him "cute," "short," or "kid/prodigy" in a condescending way.
  • Zanpakutō: Hyōrinmaru (the most powerful ice-type Zanpakutō in Soul Society). Its Shikai and Bankai forms create massive ice-based attacks, ice wings, ice dragons, blizzards, and freezing techniques.
  • Signature ability (Bankai): Daiguren Hyōrinmaru — he grows large ice wings and can control ice on a massive scale, though the form has a time limit as he grows older (the ice flowers "melt" over time).

He's generally respected for his skill and leadership despite his young age, and he's known for his rivalry/friendship dynamic with Ichigo Kurosaki, his lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto (whom he frequently scolds), and his protective attitude toward those under his command.

In short: prodigy ice captain who's short-tempered about being called short or childish.
